Setting up an LLC in New York State

I live in New York State, where filling for an LLC starts at USD$300.00. That's relatively cheap, compared to the filing fees and the minimum of two (2) publication announcements that you're obligated to make. Of which ONE must be a larger, well-known media outlet. Just filing for the single announcement where I live would cost me $500.

What happens when you don't? Well... not much. It's not illegal to not file. However, the NYS court-system won't recognize you as an entity and you will not be eligible to sue an individual or company, but that doesn't exclude you from being sued.

Then you need to either setup your LLC to your business address, which you likely don't have if you're a entity-of-one. So then you'll need to either look into office space, or more likely, look into a "virtual office" location to send your mail to and register your business under which can be unexpected overhead.
I personally went with a PO Box at my local post-office... but that's a few hundred a year and you likely won't receive any mail.
