Brand New Site!

Ahhh, so my site was annoying me. I think it’s relatively common for developers/designers to get bored with their sites before their patrons, lmao.

This time around I thought to myself let’s do something cool, hip and new. I’m the furthest thing from a designer and I would rather be neck deep in code versus designing UIs and layouts so I’ve already gotten myself in a bit a quagmire.

First I thought I should try something new, something fresh. Did some window shopping and research and decided to give PyroCMSPyroCMS is a simple, flexible, community driven Content Management System built with the PHP framework CodeIgniter. a shot as it worked out very well for my LLC’s website http://provisionists.com/. I got about half way through before I realized that it was just not going to work.

It took me roughly 3 months to get the Provisionists site up and running and I had to do a lot of symbolic linking to make sure references from the original code and the WHMCSWHMCS is an all-in-one client management, billing & support solution for online businesses. Handling everything from signup to termination, WHMCS is a powerful business automation tool that puts you firmly in control client-end would respect actions accordingly.

I wasn’t about to take that kind of chunk out of my project to apply it to a site a rarely use, update, etc. Yea it’s pretty sad when you admit you don’t use your very own professional presence. MEH!

I love PyroCMS and the base of the software is very sound with little to no issues in deployment or usability. Rapid application development is achievable, but dampered through diving in the source code itself to figure out what extensibility is possible.  Their documentation is lacking but they’re making strives to get it updated for the average user, figuring the power-users and developers like myself will likely just use the API documentation or go diving in the source files… though this makes this software less than ideal for quick projects.

So needless to say, I stuck it out with WordPress and a nice post-fabricated ElegantThemes theme. Sexy right? lol

Well off to get some more fun shit done. I’ll try to update this thing more often. Time permitting.
